Chapter 8 - The Journey Begins with Learning Needs Resource Assessment

"A dialogue approach to teaching means that . . . through conversation and wondering, adult learners will decide for themselves the meaning of new information and its importance to them" (p. 60).  To me this seems like an agreement.  The educator is responsible for determining what their learners are interested in gaining and the learners are then responsible for applying this new information where appropriate.  This chapter discusses taking the "pulse" of your learners.  Meaning discovering what they bring to the table, what they want to learn, and any concerns.  Dr. Norris shares her mentor, Dr. Jane Vella's assessment approach:  ask, study and observe.
"It is your job to connect with your learners in a way that they will say yes when you issue the invitation to learn" (p. 64).
