Chapter 11 - The Power of the Visual
Chapter eleven is a very brief chapter on the use of graphics to facilitate in meaning making. Because the brain is a visual processor containing only 1/5 that processes words we are reminded to incorporate graphic organizers to make learning as visual as possible. Dr. Norris gives examples such as never forgetting a face but being unable recall someones name. Or, the use of the food pyramid or a donation thermometer to represent a percent to goal. The point of this brief chapter is simply to tap into that 4/5 of the brain that processes things visually. And, obviously we are all aware of the importance of utilizing as many senses as possible when learning in order to achieve the highest results.
